In case you hadn’t noticed, I’ve been on a much-needed hiatus from the blogging (and basically any kind of working) world. Our sweet baby boy arrived on January 27th and I have been taking time off to hang out with our little man and just be his mama for a while.
Taking care of a baby that can’t really talk or interact leaves a lot of time for thinking and mind-wandering. I’m sure it was sometime during a late night/early morning feeding that I started thinking about Feast & Dwell and what I want it to be. When I first started this blog, I had a general idea of where I wanted it to go but didn’t really have a “niche.” Now, being a year into it (what?!), I have a better idea of specifically what I want to do and what I want to focus on.
I think having a baby makes you think about what you want your life to look like from that point forward. As I've thought about this I've come to the conclusion that I want to love people more - and better. I want our son to have an example of how love is supposed to look and know that it’s not something that is kept within the walls of a house. It’s something that’s supposed to leak out into the rest of our lives. I believe we are meant to love on everyone and a great way to show that is through hospitality.
Even from the start, this thought of “hospitality” has been a part of the vision of Feast & Dwell, but I never quite knew what I wanted that to look like. I believe hospitality is more than just about having people in your home - it’s a mindset. It’s a way of living. It’s taking what we view as ours and sharing it with those we love and really, anyone we come in contact with. It’s this view that our house, our belongings, the food we cook - it’s all meant to be shared and we are meant to invite others in to share in what we have been given.
I want this blog to be a resource and a place where people can come and be inspired to do just that. In a world where we are private and like to keep things to ourselves, my desire is to break down walls and bring people into my life to love on them and do life with them.
I do think that there is something special about having a meal together and I also believe that plays a part in the idea of hospitality among other things. There are practicals, but there is also the heart behind it.
So over the next several weeks, I am going to be sharing numerous blog posts on hospitality. I’m breaking the series up into multiple components to make it well-rounded and to make sure I hit all the points and different aspects of hospitality. My hope is that from here on out, all my blogs can be pointed back to this general idea of what hospitality is. I’ll be doing 4 blog posts on this topic per month with each post being centered around a different concept.
As I mentioned above, hospitality isn’t just the act of having people in your home, it’s a way of living. Getting into the mindset of hospitality is something that should bleed into every area of our lives and it’s not always an easy thing to do. The goal of these posts is to inspire you and share ways to train our minds towards the hospitality mindset.
These posts are going to be so fun! I’ll be sharing all kinds of practical ways to show hospitality. From how to throw a feast in your home to how to love on your neighbors to quick and easy tips for when you have people over on a whim (this happens to us quite a bit lately!). These posts will be tailored so you can go out and put them into practice. My hope is that these are posts you will come back to when you need ideas and inspiration.
I’m super excited about this component. I’m going to be interviewing people who I believe do hospitality really well and sharing their advice with you guys. I’m so pumped to get different views on this amazing topic and see how the people around me are sharing their resources with others. Some interviews will also include recipes!
Each month I’ll be sharing a recipe specifically designed to feed several people. It may be one dish that can feed a lot, or it could be a complete menu that you can serve to a few friends. That way you have everything you need right here when you want to have a people over for dinner (or breakfast or brunch!).
Guys, this is my heart. This is a topic I’m so passionate about and I’m so excited to see the blog evolve into a place that’s about bringing others into our lives and loving them well. This is something that my husband and I have always tried to implement into our lives but also something I know we can always do better. I’m excited to explore this with y’all and I cannot wait to get started! If you have anything you would like to see a post on, comment below!
