IT’S 2017 YOU GUYS! I can’t even believe it. So many amazing things are already in store for this year:
- BABY! Our sweet Liam's due date is only 24 days away - I can hardly believe it!
- Feast & Dwell’s 1-year anniversary!
- Other things I will be sharing in the future (I have to keep some secrets around here!).
When I think of January, I think of allllll the health things. Exercising, eating healthy, and all the diets. My next couple blog posts will be centered around healthy living but for a couple of purposes. Most healthy living that you hear about is advertised with the main purpose of making you look great. While I definitely think it’s ok to want to look good, I think it’s even more important to feel good. I also want these things to be attainable. I don't want to be spending hours on end trying to lead a healthy lifestyle and miss spending time with my family. My heart behind healthy living is that it would go hand-in-hand with caring for my family, loving them well, as well as taking care of myself (so that I can do all of those things to the best of my ability!).
All of that being said, let's dive into a few simple ways I like to maintain a healthy lifestyle. There are things I do every week to keep my body and mind healthy.
Meal planning + prep for the week
At the beginning of each week, I sit down and do all my meal planning for the week. This is one of those things that can take a bit of discipline, but if you do it, it saves you so much time during the week! I wrote a blog post about it a while back and you can check that out here.
Along with meal planning, I prep my meals for the week. After I go grocery shopping, I like to organize all the ingredients for each meal together. This makes it easy to grab them when I’m about to start cooking.
Keep only healthy snacks in your pantry/fridge
This has been a huge one for us! We used to snack on junky foods, but now we only keep healthy things in our fridge and pantry which in turn helps us to eat a lot healthier during the day. On Thursday, I’ll be doing a blog post with all kinds of healthy snack suggestions.
Find a workout that works for you and schedule it
This could be as simple as walking 30 minutes a day or going to the gym to really get after it. Since pregnancy is limiting in the exercises I can do (especially in these last few months/weeks), I’ve been going on 3 mile walks since the second trimester and it has been relaxing but also super rewarding as far as health goes. If you prefer to go somewhere to workout (I’ll definitely be jumping back into pilates/yoga once the baby comes!), schedule those times at the beginning of the week. Most studios have apps where you can schedule your slots ahead of time. I like to go ahead and schedule my workouts for the week on Sunday and get them in my calendar so I already know what to expect for the week.
Take time for yourself each day - even if it’s just 30 minutes
This one helps so much mentally. I can get so caught up with the work I need to do during the week and things I need to do around the house that I forget to take time just for me. “Me” time can be sitting down to read a book, watching a show, working on a project, doing a little shopping, going and getting your nails done, etc. The goal is to do something that is going to fill you and make you feel refreshed and ready for whatever is next.
Maintaining a healthy lifestyle doesn't have to be something that completely takes over your life. These simple and easy steps are ones that will save you time, make you feel great, and leave you mentally ready to love on your family.
